âThis is Not the Story of the Gay Christianâ
These people listed in Romans 1 are filled with all wickedness. This is not the testimony of gay Christians.
You canât be a Christian, a follower of Christ, and be filled with all wickedness at the same time. The person listed in Romans 1 is filled with all covetousness. This is not the character of a Christian believer, gay or otherwise.
They are filled with all maliciousness, filled with all murder. Weâre not talking about a gay Christian couple who is walking with and worshipping Jesus. You canât pull out verse 26-27 out of context and still get a true picture of what situation is addressed. Some have tried to use these verses to say God hates homosexuals. That is not a true picture of what is shown in the whole chapter. God is not condemning gays, and oneâs sexual orientation is not even the issue. At odds with God here is the idolater who has pushed God out of their life, even though they know better. They begin to go downward in their thinking because they reject God. They do not even want to retain God in their knowledge. Therefore they are filled with all wickedness.
As the people listed go down this slippery slope, Romans says they are haters of God! Rev. Frank Scott shared with me that this was the passage that rather than condemn him as a gay man, set him free. He knew if nothing else he was not a hater of God. God was his best friend, and he loved the Lord. It was obvious in his life the Lord loved him, too. No one could now count how many people Pastor Frank has helped and led to Christ. He is not a hater of God. He is a Christian. He is gay. He is called, equipped and anointed.
Though so many people try to say this Romans passage proves that God hates homosexuals, yet this was the passage that proved God did not hate homosexuals. It became clear to Rev. Scott that he was not being addressed here at all. This was the passage that brought him true freedom in Christ.
This passage is used by Christians to deny gay people the right of membership. It is used to prevent gay people from having their relationship of love blessed, Communion withheld, employment withheld; all because people think this passage says something it does not.
It doesnât matter if a person is gay or any other orientation. What matters is if they belong to Jesus. If they belong to Jesus the fruit of the Spirit will be evident and growing.
The fruit of the Spirit is not heterosexuality. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. (Gal 5:22-23)
One who is Christâs sheep knows His voice. They worship and serve the Creator rather than our old selfish nature. God is looking for those who would seek His face. God is looking for worshippers who will worship Him in Spirit and in truth.
